INTRODUCTION. Players – especially those in the same Team – should communicate more with each other and find out their desire for different types of information. The questionnaires on this page aims to help obtain various types of information from Players. (27/5/08)

QUESTIONNAIRE – PROBABILITY OF ACHIEVING TWO SHOTS.

The questionnaire aims to find out how well Respondents believe they can play two different shots. The first shot involves two consecutive bowls that aim to draw close to the jack. The second shot involves an upshot to hit a jack or a bowl twelve inches apart. Statistics exist that give information on these two shots. Thus any Player can compare their answers with actual standards. (25/10/09).

QUESTIONNAIRE – PROBABLE ACCURACY OF TWO SHOTS.

This questionnaire poses two questions. Both refer to the accuracy with which Respondents can draw a bowl (a) three feet past the jack and (b) six feet past the jack. Each Respondent has the estimate the number of times out of a 100 they will bowl (a) a bowl that finishes (i) within two feet or (ii) three to six feet, (b) an overweight bowl, and (c) an under weight bowl. QUESTIONNAIRE – METHODS FOR GAINING LINE AND WEIGHT.

This questionnaire aims to find out how a  Respondent (a) selects his line and (b) gives his bowl the desired weight . Notes exist on these two aspects. Use the two previous links.The first section defines (a) aiming point (b) aiming line, and (c) focus point and uses them in this section that concentrates on the selection of line. Questions include (a) what  Respondents use as their focus point, (b) how often they deliver their bowl over their focus point and (c) how they alter their aiming point if the jack moves a significant distance off the centre line. The second section deals with the Desired Weight. Questions include (a) What do you do to give your bowl the desired weight, (b) What they do if they want to bowl a longer bowl, and (c) any other ideas they have. (25/10/09)

QUESTIONNAIRE – ROLE OF LEADER

This excel document has two work sheets i.e. two different questionnaires. Each asks (a) how Players prefer a Leader to play and (b) the interpretations Respondents put on various words. Both questionnaires have similar questions. The first one asks Respondents to assume they have the role of the Leader. The second one asks Respondents to assume they have the role of a Skipper. Initially they ask Respondents to consider whether to use the approach of (a) Two close bowls, (b) One on and one behind, or (c) Another approach. Later questions aim to find out what Respondents mean by the words – (a) close, (b) on, and (c) behind. Click What shots should a Skipper ask from a Leader for one view on this topic. (29/5/08) 

QUESTIONNAIRE – HOW SHOULD THIRDS ACT.

This questionnaire asks Skippers to (a) record various aspect of how they would like their Thirds to act and (b) give information about the Skipper's attitude to various approaches to skipping . Questions cover – (a) Should Thirds suggest shots for the Skipper to play, (b) The Skipper's attitude to discussing the shot to play when he changes ends, (c) What to do if the Third suggests a shot that the Skipper does not favour, (d) What you would like the Third to do if the head has changed, and (e) various other topics.  Probably it would help a Skipper and a Third  to work together better in playing in a Team if the Skipper completed the questionnaire and sat down with his Third to discuss the answers. The discussion together would help the Skipper to obtain the Third's reactions to the various points. Thus a Skipper may decide to vary his approach because of the views of a particular Third. It should help the Third to understand why a Skipper behaves in the way he does. A Third may not approve but it may allow the Third to not feel so annoyed with the Skipper. (27/5/08)

QUESTIONNAIRE – INFORMATION AFTER FIRST BOWL.

This questionnaire seeks information on the information and/or actions the Respondent would like to hear/receive from the Skipper – after the Respondent has played their first bowl. The first section lists the communication the Respondent would like to hear. The second section asks what actions the Respondent would like the Skipper to take – or not take. The third section asks the Respondent what sort of comments (if any) the Respondent would like to hear. (29/5/08)

QUESTIONNAIRE – MEANING OF TERMS.

This questionnaire lists the following seven different calls from a Skipper – (a) Arrive on that bowl, (b) Rest on that bowl, (c) Crack an egg on that bowl, (d) Draw off the shot bowl, (e) Play a bowl with ditch weight, (f) Reaching it, and (g) Draw right up to it. For each call , it asks Respondents to (a) estimate where a bowl with perfect weight would finish and (b) how often the Respondent and a Division-One Player would achieve the objective of the call.
